Dr. Sitzabee is the Vice President for Facilities Management and Planning and the Chief Facilities Officer for The Pennsylvania State University. A native of New York and a graduate of Norwich University, 93’with a BS degree in Civil engineering. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served 21+ years as a Civil Engineer officer until he retired in 2014. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in New York and North Carolina. In his current role, Dr. Sitzabee leads 1500+ FTEs, directs a $344M operating budget, and oversees a $4.0B capital plan. He is responsible for over 33 million square feet of facilities and 22,000 acres of land across Penn State’s 24 campuses and locations.
Dr. Sitzabee joined us from Cornell University, where he was the Vice President of Infrastructure Properties and Planning. He is a combat veteran and has earned several campaign medals for Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Kosovo. He has an MS in Engineering Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Since obtaining his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University, Dr. Sitzabee has published over 30 scholarly works to include 14 peer-reviewed journal publications. He has taught at the Air Force Institute of Technology Graduate School of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and as a Professor of Aerospace Studies at Cornell University. He was selected as the Holm Center Educator of the Year (2012) and was recognized as the AFIT outstanding scholar (2010), faculty scholar (2011), and won the exceptional journal publication awards (2012). Dr. Sitzabee currently holds an appointment as a Professor (affiliate) in the Architectural Engineering Department here at Penn State.
