Daniel P. Heist
Daniel Heist serves as the Director of Internal Audit at Penn State and has been with Penn State in his current role since 2003. He brings more than 25 years of auditing and accounting experience to his position. Dan oversees the Internal Audit department, which is responsible for conducting financial and informational technology compliance and operational audits. In addition, the department is responsible for overseeing the University’s Ethics and Compliance hotline and conducting investigations into potential fraud and misuse of University assets. In these roles Dan and the department not only work closely with senior management of the University, but also with the University’s Board of Trustees’ Committee on Audit and Risk.
Prior to coming to Penn State, most of Dan’s professional career was with Deloitte & Touche, LLP. As a senior manager with the firm, he specialized in serving higher education clients and was a recognized national expert in the Firm’s National Higher Education Industry Group. In addition, he served a variety of other manufacturing and service industry clients, both privately and publicly held. Dan is a graduate of Penn State and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983.
Outside of his work at Penn State, Dan is active with the American Cancer Society serving at the local, state, and national level, and is the current Treasurer of the National American Cancer Society Board of Directors.
